Details
Seduced by photos of beautiful lake-side running while looking at the peaks of Ruapehu and Ngarahoe, reality was a freezing, rain-sodden half marathon at the end of which I could not feel my feet.
This one is great for mid-winter training, but if the weather is bad, then it can be pretty miserable. Prepare for the inevitable cold, (running gloves are a great idea), and make sure you have keys to your accomodation to be able to have a hot shower soon after the event.
The solid chocolate fish at the finish line was a highlight.
The course itself is reasonably flat wit a few gradual rises. For the most part, it is a fast course.
